Firstly, let me take this opportunity to wish all readers a very happy and prosperous new year. I'm pushed for time, so just two selections for tomorrow. At Cheltenham only five go in the Dipper Novices' Chase; Punchestowns won't be much of a price but I'm not inclined to oppose even though there are some talented rivals in the field.
In the 3.35 at Exeter I go for Tocca Ferro. As part of a Racing Post Stable Tour item a couple of months ago trainer Emma Lavelle said the following about her charge: 'We like him... There are certain horses you get that give you that extra special feeling and he would be one of those... I'm dreaming about collecting a big trophy with him.'

Exeter abandoned and although Cheltenham did eventually race, the was a rash of non-runners, including Punchestowns in the Dipper. Nicky Henderson (and a couple of other trainers too) won't have an easy task finding a viable alternative. So, just two runners in the Dipper in which Seven Is My Number beat Pigeon Island and only three in the Freedom Hurdle. Choc Thornton adopted particularly aggressive tactics on Katchit (11/4), running right alongside front-runner Mr Thriller - he had that one beat two out but the fight up front played right into Barry Geraghty's hands on Sentry Duty (9/2) who went clean away after the last. I've seeon Choc use similar tactics successfully in a small field in a novice chase at Aintree a couple of years ago.
